There is an official term for 'art speak'. It’s called ‘International Art English’ (yes, really), and it is now widely used by galleries and artists to describe their work. While ‘art speak’ can be appropriate for some audiences, it can also totally alienating to other people. Consider making your artwork or venue accessible for everybody, perhaps by providing two exhibition guides. Many museums provide free worksheets or games for school groups and families, so that they can also enjoy and understand an exhibition or project in a particular way. This doesn’t have to be just for organisations and venues though; as an independent artist, perhaps consider creating worksheets relating to your work that could be used by educators and teachers to talk about your work to young people.
